Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
For me ,having made major inroads into the years 1974-1991 and not needing many in those years
the next frontier would be 1973A and B,Orange works for me somehow,my Grandma gave me my first few
in the 1980-s. I like the design, they seem to present well even when damaged, unlike the 1974 and 1975.
1973-nothing like a challenge!!! Back in the schoolyard ,1986 was the first year I collected so there is some
good memories there, the blue looked sharp.
Good to see others interested in Old School cards like scanlens, currently organising a Scanlens trade
so things may be looking up.

Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
I am with you Footycard I only collect mint, mint to me is perfect corners and sides and almost perfect centreing. I do not have alot of Scanlens anymore as it is very hard to find mint cards. I buy the odd unopened pack now and again. Footycards.com.au now has some
Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
Could not agree more about Mint Scanlens....so hard to find them in Mint Condition. But so worth the wait
My 1978 Scanlens set is my pride and joy. Majority of cards in perfect condition. No creases. Corners square. Clean cards. The rest of the cards are nearly just as good.
1985 was also a nice set of cards too

Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
1981 Danny is a ultra MINt year for me. What i call 20 upgrades are so slight it is almost ridiculous.
I 'm needing to go from near mint to MINT,and that's not easy.
On Footycard's point of view. Yeah it is kind of a false economy.
For those of us now is the time to upgrade those VG-EX 1970's Scanlens to better cond
before it is impossible. This generation of collectors will be fine. It is the next 20-25 years later
who are left cards in those conditions, didn't upgrade, and won't get top dollar.
It's the difference between the active collector who does it for the thrill of the chase
and likes filling gaps, other people's and their own, and the accumulator who hopes they are sitting on
a goldmine and leaves things for the silverfish and the dust for the sake of having them.
I hate the accumalator side in me,and every time I move or do a big list on Ebay,
I shake myself and say "You know what, they are not doing any good there sitting there
and somebody will be very happy to see them-get cracking."
That's why people on this forum are so valuable to me,their hobby is alive to them
not something they hide away to make a big profit.
Beware people putting cards away for the future. they may not be the investment
you wish them to be. UPGRADE, get active ,TRADE,and get out and about with them.
From 2003-2006 I did not collect Select each year, and missed out on some great years.
Still catching up today.
I've known people who were prepared to trade some years to finish off one set.
If people wish to buy ,or trade scanlens please Pm me,I am fussy on condition too
so if I don't have it in the condition you ask for,I won't lie to you.
I will be considering taking some scanlens to the Traders meeting if anyone is interested
for those who like to inspect with a magnifying glass,I've seriously seen it before
and I will not laugh at you.
Thanks guys.

Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
1978, because it was my first year of collecting cards. 1970, 'cos I love them. 1981, because I got a box of them for my birthday. 1979 because I've got super memories of swapping them at school. 1985 because I liked the design. And any from the 1960s.

Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
What years are people chasing on this forum ,mainly?
hard to collect Scanlens and select at the same time...
For some reason many of us are reluctant to trade scanlens,
is it because we want to hold on to them for the future,
or want to trade for select. Bit of both for me.
But as stated earlier,if they are just sitting there
I think how happy and excited people would be to get them,
So i'd like to think I'm helping out others a lot more now
than in the past.
I sell TeamCoach if I come by any, very hard to go after everything.
So just wondering,do people specialise in one for a while,
sell one to get the other quicker? And then switch?
The tragic issue would be Scanlens-select release
which is majorly expensive, and hard to decide on,to collect or not.
I find myself sacrificing one type of card to get another at times,
any thoughts on this age old problem many of us have...?
I think a new topic where people explain what years they are chasing,
and how they chose to not collect others would be interesting.
Lightbulb Revelation...
I have identified that (true of myself as well 1986-87 Schoolyard trade period)
we like those years we began as children,or go back to finish them later,
so the investment and design factor is often heavily influenced by sentiment.
I do not see that as a bad thing, just interesting
There is much to learn from others in this area,
as we all seem to want the same cards, but collect so differently.
I need sleep.

Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
For me, I'd ticked off all the Scanlens from my want list some time ago and have not been thinking much about completing sets of years I don't have, or updating conditon of those cards I could upgrade..Plus, it's getting more and more difficult to find them so there are fewer and fewer people wanting to trade because once someone finds them they want to keep them.
However, I do think in the long term some sort of trading could happen - I have fond memories of swapping cards in the schoolyard and being jealous of the kid who'd always completed his set first, spending my pocket money on packs of cards..

Re: The best (your Favourite) scanlens set
My favourite is the 1966 (original series) lovely set, first time some effort went into the design and production of the cards in Australia.

I loved the '66s - when you see mint, glossy examples of them it's no wonder they're so highly collectible and going up in value.
