I was browsing vintage US cards as I'm heading over to the states for a holiday/conference and have been thinking about places to go for cards. Came across this ebay auction of a really interesting old card, one you don't see too often. These cards are great and makes you wonder how many of them are out there.

Re: Interesting old card
Thats a very interesting card there!
For more reasons than one.
Joe Paterno was a legendary coach at Penn State Uni, a very strong traditional College Football team (there stadiums
can hold as many as the MCG, for a college team!).
He coached there for decades, however in the last year or so one of his assistants was found to have been doing
bad things with some of his players in the 90s, and he apparently Paterno knowingly ignored it.
He died while still holding position of head coach last year in the absolute storm of the scandal, in his mid 80s (I think).
So bad has the scandal been, they pulled down a memorial statue of him on campus, and have had al of their results
for the last decade or so erased (the Storm got off seemingly lightly then!)
Well worth googling the whole sordid saga, ESPN have given it extensive coverage over the last year or two.
So yeah a big backstory to an obviously very rare card!

Wow fascinating stuff Dave. Makes you think there might be a reason behind the card sale perhaps!

Re: Interesting old card
When I was in the US last month there was a lot of media on this. Heap of debate around whether the statue at the front of Penn State of him should still stand or be taken down. very shocking stuff, and real bad if he knowingly ignored.

Re: Interesting old card
Looks like they ended up taking the statue down, and they've stored it away somewhere. Can you imagine what would happen if one of the MCG statues was taken away.
